Had Wanted

I wanted to see what would happen, just like the rest of you had wanted.

If "wanted" was removed from the end of that sentence and the last word became "had," would it become grammatically incorrect, even nonsensical?

I wanted to see what would happen, just like the rest of you had.

Thanks.
