Had took

My friend gave a presentation about a saint and it it she said, "The Communist Party had took control over Poland". I told her afterwards that it should have been "had taken" (since they took control before what she was talking about). However she disagreed and I've tried multiple ways to convince her she's wrong but she just won't listen. I know how to use had properly but not how to make her understand. Can anyone help me with this argument?

Anonymous Can anyone help me with this argument? Administer large doses of pain until she admits she's wrong and you're right. I assume you've already explained how the past perfect tense is formed.
