Had taken the bus manytimes before?

A : How can we get to the theatre if your car is at the mechanic's?
B : We can always go there by bus.
A : is there a bus that stops near the theatre?
B : sure, i had taken the bus many times before. (Wrong)

As you see, the last sentence 'I had taken the bus many times before' contains an awkard expression or an error on grammar. But don't know why. Is there any idea?
