Our club had participated in various categories of duet, solo performances of singing as well as dancing.

Was it a competition? Did you compete? Or did you participate?

This doesn't work.

Our club participated in the categories of solo and duet singing and in dancing.

(Surely there were multiple dancing categories too?)

Yes we participated to compete and there were various category in terms of children competition, Adult competition...couples...etc
