Had increased/had increase

my work is always about writing a report, which means it will be written in the past tense form.So I've always come across this kind of confusion

I want to write it in the past tense

- the sale had increased significantly...

- the sale had increased significantly...

or should I just use

- the sales has increased significantly...

hope anyone can explain this:)
