Had felt/felt

Hi,
In the following sentence, would past perfect be acceptable, or it would be obligatory to use simple past instead of the future if one was to keep past perfect?

I will go to the doctor's this morning because I had felt ill during the night.

Thanks.

Hi,

This question had me in doubt as to whether we say, 'fall ill' or 'feel ill'. The tenses of fall being, fall, fell, had fallen and falling. The tenses of feel being feel, felt and feeling. So what is the difference between 'feeling ill' and 'falling ill'?
