Had come or had gone?

Hi,

Could anyone please tell me if the following sentence is correct with "had come" or if it should be replaced with "had gone" - and how does one know which is the correct choice?

"What they didn't even take the time to find out was that I had come there that day prepared to purchase a car."

Thank you!

In this context "come" is used when the movement is towards the speaker or to the listener, "go" is a movement away from the speaker.

In your sentence you therefore need "had gone"

Here are some examples from the Cambridge dictionary.
