Hello, Thanks for your time. I found the below statements in one of the regional news paper. Four women and one man were killed, the police said. The man had been taken to hospital with life threatening injuries, but died there, Police spokesman Mark Francis said. (The man had been taken to hospital) - - Can I say this as 'The man had taken to hospital' ?? Why "been" is used ?? I was told that "Had been" should be used only for past participle progressive actions. It seems to be like there are other usage as well. Can someone please explain the usages of "Had been". Thanks
