had been taken care of

He declared a state of mourning in the kingdom at once. Outwardly, Dhritashtra and Duryodhana were showing grief stricken faces but in their hearts they were feeling happy.
They thought that now, Duryodhana's way was clear. All the hurdls of his way to the throne had been taken care of. Grandman Bhishma and other courtiers were in a state of shock and their sadness was beyond words. Their minds were too benumbed to suspect any foul play.

Could you tell me why the preposition "of" has been used at the end of the sentence? I would have ended that sentence with "care".
