Had been

Two sentences:

1. He was taking a bath when i called.

2. He had been taking a bath when i called.

Number 1 i'm sure is OK. Number 2 i'm not so sure about. Is it grammatically correct???

The past perfect would mean that the bath had been completed before you called. This could well be true, but I don't think it's what you mean to say.

I don't know if someone mercifully deleted my original post. The site keeps shutting down on me and I've reset at least 50 times. I got so rattled I really screwed up on the grammar.
