Had asked

I wasn't going to call you, because you had asked me to text you a few days ago and I don't have a cell phone on me these couple of days.

Please tell me if the sentence above is grammactically correct.

Aside from any grammatical issues, the sentence seems illogical to me. It just doesn't seem to make any sense as a whole.

So the use of (had asked) is ok or not ok? Or are you saying that it could be used but doesn't have to be.
