Had asked

Aside from any grammatical issues, the sentence seems illogical to me. It just doesn't seem to make any sense as a whole.

I wasn't going to call you, because you had asked me to text you a few days ago and I don't have a cell phone on me these couple of days.

Please tell me if the sentence above is grammactically correct.

I wasn't going to call you, because you ( had asked ) asked me to text you a few days ago and I haven't had a cell phone on me this last couple of days.

So the use of (had asked) is ok or not ok? Or are you saying that it could be used but doesn't have to be.

Let's say I use the past present (I think you mean Past Perfect) tense does it mean that the texting took place before a few days ago or during a few days ago? The asking took place 'before' a few days a
