Had a son

A mother can always say that she had a baby last night, if she really had had a baby.
But, at times we hear a man say that he had a son recently. Now, that is biologically impossible.
But since I hear it often, does "had" have a different meaning here ?

We do? I don't recall hearing a man say a thing like that. But if so, he means, of course, that his wife had a son recently.
