Habit

Hi,

please check and tell me if it can work.

"I wish to get rid of the habit to make this mistake"

"I wish to get out of the habit to make this mistake"

I think both sentences are incorrect but I don´t have idea of how to correct them..

Can you help me? I wish to say that I don´t want to repeat the same mistake but I am got used to this mistake .....

Thanks

How about "I wish I can get rid of my habit on making this mistake" if the mistake is right in front of you or "I wish I can get rid of my habit on making that mistake" if the mistake happened some time before and not current.

You may say " I wish I could change the habit of making the same mistake..."

Dear,

thanks for the reply!

ok, it is clear but if I need to specify the mistake, can I say:

"I wish I can get rid of the habit on smoking" ??? Do I have to use the ing form ? and must it be ON a not OF? I would say rather: "of the habit OF smoking"

Thanks

Hello, you are correct. OF is used and so is the ing form.

I wish I could kick the smoking habit.

I wish I could quit smoking. (no need to say "habit")

Hi,

are "to kick" and "to quiet" synonyms in this context?

Thanks for your reply
