Guwahati

How to say that if I am going to place "A" and place "B" is on the way I mean if we need to go place a then we have to go over or across place B. Like I am going to Guwahati and shillong is on the way to Guwahati and someone asks me where is Shillong then I have to say it's on the way to Guwahati how to say that in a proper grammatical manner.
