Gum to dynamite

Has anybody got an idea what phrase *"gum to dynamite"* might mean, pls?
It's a headline of a chapter in an article about history of cotton. It's quite confusing because there is nothing related to either "gum" or "dynamite" in the text.
Thanks a lot.

Hi Pabla,
Maybe the title is intended to show the broad range of the applications of cotton.

I hope these two links help you find something about it:

"Cellulose gum is extracted from wood pulp and purified cotton cellulose."
