I'm a new fan of a silly shot-em-up, blow-it-up show called Burn Notice. Actually, it's very clever, but it's not like reading Great Literature. A spy gets fired - he doesn't know why, just that someone put a Burn Notice in his file - and he's on his own in Miami. Fun stories, lots of exposions. I never get tired of them blowing up a boat with big pyro.

But the guiltiest of my TV watching is called Clean House, where a crew of funny people - usually four of them - go into someone's unbelievably cluttered, messy house, and redo it. The painfully funny part is watching the tug-of-war between the house-tidiers and the clutterbugs, who cannot get rid of the crap in their lives. One guy had 250 Frisbees - we're talking the promotional ones, a pizza place is opening, here's a Frisbee that looks like a pizza. And he was attached to them! They were just scattered around his garage, but he wanted to keep them all. Part of the show is: they have a yard sale to sell the clutter and bring in money for the redo, and they catch people sneaking clutter back into the house. I mean, we all have kipple, but honestly.
The British version is called How Clean Is Your House, but that deals with actual filth (naughty pets, bad smalls, true grime); Clean House is a lot sillier.
And there's the comfort shows... and Law and Order tops the list - any version - and it's always on somewhere!

Oranse alert, pinging fish-dude, I so want to hear the production scuttlebutt about Burn, I thought it was quite clever at times, but there's gotta be some south FL prod stories!

Really, this is an indicator that there is something in the water here that causes mild cases of OCD, well not always so mild, probably not the water, maybe diet, TV radiation? But these makeover shows, isn't this almost equivalent to anonymous uploading a youtube video of a *** fight that was set up with a cheap pint or two?
Anyway the Clean House folks are wimps, they should take on one of those yards up in New Hampshire or Maine that has paths through the clutter established 70-80 years going.

Okay, I've done my time in rural America, and I want to know: how do all those abandoned cars end up in cornfields? I've seen big yellow buses rusting in cornfields, and even in the woods - what, they take the dying vehicles to the least likely place, like they're abandoning a kitten in another nabe? Which is more reprehensible, of course. Or like the Scandinavians, shoving the dead off in a boat in the North Sea. Too lazy to dig a grave? Easier to get rid of the old canoe this way?
Train rides are very educational this way. Trains go through the low- rent districts, and I always find it poignant to see a rusty old swingset in a backyard. You know it was a Big Purchase way back when, Dad put it together, the kids loved it, then grew up and moved away - and this cheap K-Mart swingset is the lasting monument of having kids. Or a ratty neglected old pool - the worst is seeing a dog tied up out there - you have to wonder what people are thinking, tying a dog to an old radiator.
The Clean House thing is, these are not SWAT neater-uppers, these are people the nice suburban clutterbugs asked in to fix the place up. None of the homes require a dumpster - although, one ex-relative of mine had a grandma who would fill up one house with junk, then go off and buy another to fill. When she died they had several houses filled with junk to clear out.

Obviously they've 're-tooled' the show for the second season, which premiered last night at 10, and they've cut the relationship with Fiona (but not dumped the character altogether). They're also going to make Sharon Gless' part more substrantial, which is a HUGE mistake because rather than humanize Michael it just weakens him. He's in hiding, at least sort-of, and legions of bad people are out to kill him, and he's going to make a quick stop at mom's to fix the toaster? Puh-leez.

And the new Head Bad Guy is a smokin' hot 25 year old babe? Granted, she's always talking in terms of "we" when she's giving orders, so she's supposed to be a mouthpiece for some unidentified cabal, but still. In Season 1 terms she's an expendable extra; someone you'd find left in an alley, bled out and with no ID. Even the B story of the premiere episode seemed weak; I kept waiting for the reversal, where the guy whose family was in peril turned out to be One Of Them and just a ruse to make Michael do their bidding.

Odd that it was never so much as raised.
Oh, well. We'll see, I guess.

I think I'm the onlyest one on this ng that doesn't watch TV on an even close to regular basis.

I wish I had dish. We never cross paths, I have a friend that was an assistant to a producer and thats it. I'll ask her for juicy bits...of gossip. I can tell you this, they dont party right. Cause when there is a show in town that parties, we cross paths. Like Farrell-Miami Vice, ex-Dexter and of course the losers at MTV and most of the basic cable ****.

Guilty entertainment stimulus for me? Its starts and ends with a ******* production callled The Trailer Park Boys. You can watch all the episodes on Youtube but I suggest Netflixing the DVDs and watch it the right way.
I look at National Geographic Channel, Weeds, Dexter, Burn Notice, Entourage, Firefly, PTI, Around the Horn, Samantha Brown, Paula Dean, Twilight Zone Marathons, SciFi Original Movies, anything with killer sharks, squids, monsters, I got all excited over FEAR ITSELF, but its whack.
