Guessing

Background : A tired doctor is daydreaming about a nurse in a bikini, of which he says it is a tradition called 9:15 cup-a coffee (Maybe it is his pick-him-up thing). Elliot and Carla suddenly interrupt him and snap him back to reality. They stare at him and begin to mock him:

Elliot: Carla, what time is it?

Carla: Ohh, I don't know, but I'm guessing it's about -- hmm -- 9:15ish?

Hi, I'd like to know the reason of using "I'm guessing" instead of "I guess" here.

Does the following explanation apply to the case?

"I guess you X" - maybe you do, maybe you don't X

"I'm guessing you X" - I expect that you do X, it would be best if you do X.

I guess it's ten o'clock. (This is my sense of it, without deliberating.)

I'm guessing it's ten o'clock. (I'm making a conscious effort to estimate the time.)
