guard

Because Hsalem guarded/defended Notwitski very well through out the finals, besides some rebounds and points, he should deserve some credit for the championship.

Is this sentence OK?

Thank you

guard and defend don't mean the same thing, if that's what you're asking.

Thank you Califjim,

What is the difference between guard and defend? I thought they were the same.

You defend those who are on the same side as you.
When someone attacks one of your friends or teammates, you defend your friend or teammate from the attack.

You guard someone on the opposing team in basketball (to keep them from scoring points).

At least that's my understanding of it.

Hi guys,

In soccer, you 'mark' someone on the opposing team.
