Environmental protection is the responsibility of politicians, not individuals as individuals can do too little. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is often argued that the responsibility of environmental protection lies with politicians while some oppose this view. In my opinion, I completely agree that politicians should take the responsibility of protecting the environment.

Those who are in politics can create awareness among the public at large why the protection of environment is crucial. They can run campaigns by using their public offices and inform the general public about the dangers of harming the ecosystem. They can come in TV commercials or radio broadcasts informing people about the importance of conservation programs. In Pakistan, for example, Mr. Imran Khan, a prominent figure in politics, appeared in various TV shows; where, he encouraged people to plant trees. The citizens of Pakistan responded greatly and planted whopping 1 million trees in a single year.

Another reason is that politicians are the people who can pressurize the government in taking measures beneficial for the ecosystem. They can play a key role in protecting the environment by lobbying the government in multiple ways. They can encourage the government officials to make new laws restricting the usage of things that are harmful for the nature. They can also persuade the local administration to take strict actions against those who do not abide the law. Narendera Modi, for instance, the prime minister of India, lobbied with the then Congress ministers to prohibit the manufacturing of plastic shopping bags in India. The reason was these bags impacted the marine life.

In conclusion, although many believe that protecting the environment is the responsibility of people and not politicians, I disagree with this view. In my opinion, this responsibility lies with politicians because they can influence public and a ruling government in many ways.
