Vocabulary

Grumpy/irritable

Hi.
Any difference between 'irritable' & 'grumpy'?

"There are also those who don't show their anger in loud spectacular ways but are chronically irritable and grumpy. "

Thanks in advance

I suggest that 'grumpy' is more vocal and less formal than 'irritable'.

"Grumpy old men" is a kind of catch phrase (from movies.)
Grumpy has, for me, a note of humor or being humored.
