Grumpy

Macmillan Dictionary's definition of grumpy is "unhappy and dissatisfied, often for no obvious reason". Would it make sense if I said I was grumpy because my mum was moving to another city (it would mean I wouldn't get to see her as much.)?

There is a reason. If we are known to be grumpy, people eventually stop bothering us with attempts to hold inane conversations about such pointless topics as conquest, war, famine, death, the weather, politics, sport, royal babies, etc.
