'grow under pressure'

Hi there. Reading the article in my favorite newspaper I came across the expression 'grew under pressure'. Does it mean to perform well despite being under pressure? Is this expression correct? Is it neutral/informal? Does it sound natural? Here goes the context --> 'with their coach walking a tightrope, Barcelona grew under pressure and turned the corner with 3-1 victory.'

No, it is implying that Barcelona performed well as a result of being under pressure.
However, I find this use of "grow" unnatural. Mind you, I'm not all that au fait with footballing parlance!

Also, some kind of determiner is needed in the last part.
