Hi
I have a question about the verb 'grow'

What's growing here? pine trees
Where do these plants grow? In the desert

I can't understand the first sentence. Why is it in present continuous form like we can see the growing ?

The picture related to the first sentence is a photo of grass. I meant why it's not in simple past.

We very often use the present progressive when talking about a painting or photograph. The present moment of the situation is frozen in the picture.
