Hi
Could you please tell me if the term griping pains is common amongst native speakers? For example:
My little son had griping pains all night.
Thanks,
Tom

Never heard of them. What are they supposed to be? Stomach cramps?

It's perfectly good English, and I understood it no problem, but not many would. If a word is not used on "The View" or in beer commercials at least once a week, it is lost, and this "gripe" is one of the lost. You could use it in fiction, where there is some expectation of pretense of literacy, but not in everyday speech unless you want to be branded an intellectual.
