Are the sentences correct?

We visited my granny last weekend.
A)We were outside grilling.
B)We GRILLED / WERE GRILLING outside.

Both are OK. The Continuous tense stresses the duration of the activity. I'd say 'barbecued / were barbecuing'.

I'd say 'barbecued / were barbecuing'.
