Greetings,folks! Please,help with a sentence.

I couldn`t swim when I was younger, but I can now. I need to add not more than three words without changing the meaning of the sentence: I _________ to swim when I was younger, but I do now.

I wasn`t able to swim when I was younger, but I do now? Is it grammatically correct to use to be able in the first part of the sentence and do in the second one?
