Greeting(s) with or without 's'?

If someone greets you on a special occasion, do we reply:

Thank you for the greeting.
Thanks you for the greetings.

I wonder if the word 'greetings' should always be in plural form with an 's' in the above context.
Thanks in advance for your response.

" or if someone says,"Welcome to my party/my house" You simply reply him/her by saying, "Thank you so much for having me here". If someone says "How do you do" you have to say "How do you do", etc.
