If you notice all the festivals are celebrated at the change of the seasons, like fall to spring and rainy season to winter.
The festival of lights - deepavali - is celebrated as the ' homecoming of Lord Rama after spending 14 years in forest and also destroying "Ravana', to welcome their King, Ayodhya is decorated with flowers and lights and people are in joyful mood, decora

I believe you did a wonderful job of expaining, but I think there is more to know about your way of living, such as the language. I will have to educate myself a little more at a time to really understand the real culture and meaning behind everything. I am doing that already, but it's definitly harder than originally thought. It will take time.
