Do you 'salute' someone with a 'greeting' or you 'greet' them with a 'salutation'?

You can do either. "Salute" is usually used in a bit more formal way, and also includes the connotation of things such as bowing, obviously, the military type of salute, doffing the hat, etc., that is not thought of with a simple "greeting."
