Letter Writing

greeting in a formal letter-inivtation

I was writing formal invitations for an official corporate event.
i addressed foreign guests as Dear Mr. first + last name e.x Dear Mr. John Watson.
I would like to ask if it is correct or a rude mistake and i should have written Dear Mr. Watson.
Thanks in advance.

Using both names is not rude, but it is incorrect. In any direct address, use 'Mr/Mrs/Ms' + last name. In the recipient address and on the envelope, use 'Mr/Mrs/Ms' + first and last name.
