Greater than B or C

A is greater than B or C.

Does this mean

1. A is greater than B and A is greater than C.
or:
2. Either A is greater than B or A is greater than C.
or:
3. Either A is greater than B or A is greater than C or A is greater than both of them.
?

It could just about mean #2 in certain contexts, but it will normally mean #1. It does not mean #3.
