Most commonly, they are just put into prison and left until their punishment time expires. But what is the role of prisons? Are they supposed to be a mean of isolating convicts from society? I believe that many other purposes (and potential benefits) are being omitted. For example, prisoners can be taught how to live without perpetrating crimes, how to work or even how to treat the other people. The point of locking somebody somewhere and letting him “survive in the jungle” completely misses the intended aim, which is to make the convict realize that his ill behavior cannot be accepted and to help him evade it for the next time. However, some can say that prisoners should suffer, I am not convinced so. A human, who has made a mistake, should be given a chance to remedy it. But once we let anyone feeling inferior, oppressed and unimportant by imprisoning, the possibility of his becoming a normal citizen rapidly decreases. The ex-convicts, even the pickpockets, are much more likely to become gangsters or any other serious threat. Therefore we ought to prevent ourselves from counterproductive pseudo-solutions, which do not help nor are financially profitable. Nevertheless it is definitely way more expensive to give convicts proper and correct treatment, the benefits would come if they did not return to prison anymore. The new practice introducing would not give its results immediately. It would not be any marvelously quickly working magic. The difficulty consists in the absence of proves. If there was any undisputable evidence that this idea would resolve the problems with full cells and recidivists getting there back after a short period outside, there would be no doubts that it would be established. Unluckily, since the proves will not come by itself, our government is going to wait until the thorough examination takes place in western countries and then simply copy it, following the usual our republic’s customs. It is useless to express my genuine disappointment with the ineffectiveness of our government’s conduct. But if I were to decide about imprisoning, I would act as I have described before. Thus I would achieve or at least contribute to the enhancement of convict’s treatment and possible diminution of crime. I am profoundly convinced that this is the right method, which should and would work.
Here is another on. Thanks again. The Police Brutality In this essay, I would like to contemplate the most frequent causes of police brutality and its probable consequences. Plenty of evidence shows that the power tends to have destructive influence on the way certain people act under pressure. In 1970s, Philippe Zimbardo, a social scientist, established an extremely frightening experiment. He had chosen a group of students, divided them in two teams and demanded the first ones to play prison officers, whilst the others should play prisoners. This test had to be ceased before its officially intended end. The officers became terribly violent and they started to bully their schoolmates in a repulsive manner. Not all of them, but still a considerable amount. The conditions occurring in some situations are able to induce even calm and kind students to the holding of unspeakable cruelties. In addition to that, I don’t think that the policemen are rather dispassionate. Moreover some choose police work, because it enables them to physically fight troublemakers and to make use of their combat skills in a real confrontation. They are attracted to violence, which is from the initial outset a very ill contribution to public safety. Considering that everyone, who intends to be a police officer, must undergo a series of psychological tests, judging not only his intellect, but also his common sense and dispositions to perpetrate violent deeds, I constantly see one selective l mean missing. Could you identify anyone’s behavior under stress, if you did not make him feel anxious? I don’t believe so. Thus the greenhorn policemen should spend at minimum a few weeks working under the surveillance of a specially educated psychologist with the abilities to recognize any sort of dangerous conduct that might mean a potential help in the future. In the other hand, this precaution would be a very procedure of reducing police brutality. Nonetheless, I don’t see any different way.Furthermore to summarize it, the whole problem should be solved through the profound collaboration of police forces with psychologists as well as every other helpful specialists to prevent police from doing unnecessary harm to the innocent civilians. Is the purpose of this effort noble enough for us to try? For me undoubtedly.
