Great effect?

Hi,

If I want to say:

The accident has a big impact on his life.

But it isn't the way I would like it to be, I change it to anther way, as follows. Please proofread and see if it is acceptable and doesn't cause misunderstandings.

He had an accident and he broke his leg. The accident has brought great effect to his life since he cannot drive anymore. What a pity.

Because great effect has two meanings 1.good effect like in Photoshop;2 big impact , I would like to confirm if the underlined part is totally acceptable, which adopts the sencond meaning I listed here:big impact.

Thanks!

Thanks clive!

But I googled for the similar phrase "bring positive effects to" and "bring bad effects to" and there returned some relevant results, which seems to me the phrase "bring... effect to sb/sth" is possible.

I'm little bit confused now. Can you explain more. Thanks again!

Hi,

I said that it was not idiomatic in your example of has brought great effect to his life.

In other examples, it may or may not work.
