Hi,
Would anyone kindly clarify the following answer?
2. Within the next decade, sophisticated telescopes now orbiting the Earth will determine whether the continents really are moving, ----the incipient ----among geologists about the validity of the theory of continental drift.
(A) obviating.. consensus
(B) forestalling.. rift
(C) escalating.. debates
(D) engendering.. speculation
(E) resolving.. rumors
The right answer is B.
Why B? Why not E?

Well this question is deep! You know what is really lovely about GRE? Well, I gotta tell you, it is the fact that all the answers could be correct, but you have got to be exact to be exact, I mean to use words as exactly as you could to make the exact meaning that you have in mind.

- Well, considering what I just rambled, in this example if you use resolve, you are trying to say that there exists a problem that scientists are working on.
