Grave matron?

Hello, could anyone tell me what a "grave matrone" means? Especially in this sentence:"Tragedy should blush as much to stoop To the low
mimick follies of a farce, As a grave matron would
to dance with girls.". I need to know the real meaning because of an interpretation. Does it means an old gracefully lady?
