Granted/Granting that

1. Granted that (=Because of the fact that) it is a simple test to perform, it should be easy to get results quickly.

2. Granted it is a simple test to perform, it should be easy to get results quickly.

3. Granting that it is a simple test to perform, it should be easy to get results quickly.

4. Granting it is a simple test to perform, it should be easy to get results quickly.

#1 is quoted from Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, 7th edition.. Are #2, #3 and #4 also acceptable?

Hi Teo, This must be very very British because I've never heard this usage. It seems to me that if #1 is correct then the others would follow. We seem to be saying, Since it is a simple test , rather than If it is a simple test , or Assuming it is a simple test, or Given that it is a simple test .

  • The that should be optional.
  • I see no reason why the present participle shouldn't work as well as the past participle.

I wouldn't use 3 and 4, and I would translate/read:

1. Granted that [Assuming/Presuming/Accepting that] it is a simple test to perform, it should be easy to get results quickly.

2. Granted [I/we agree], it is a simple test to perform, so/thus it should be easy to get results quickly.

Hi Teo and Marius,

If we are to accept Teo's source as valid, then we cannot admit the usage of "Granted that" as a hypoth

Notwithstanding my reservation, granting thatis of course used:Emotion: smile

So you're saying

"Granted that we accept Teo's source as valid, we cannot admit the usage of "Granted that" as a hypothetical."
