Grand meaning

I wonder the meaning of "grand meaning" from following text.

You make it matter. "Not "why"- a question tied to reasoning and grand meaning- but "who?"- a question tied to me-in-relation-to-the-other." This is what matters.

You are reading a contemporary Australian Catholic theologian commenting on a dead 20th-century Jewish philosopher. I used to read stuff like that. It's great for flexing mental muscles you didn't even know you had, but that's about it.
