Verbs of state (like "be") are not used in the continuous forms. But these forms are fine with dynamic verbs, such as "walk" and "live."

Simple present: John walks to school.
Present continuous: John is walking to school.
Present perfect: John has walked to school.
Present perfect continuous: John has been walking to school.
