Grammer question

"Students had to gather in the yard and stand in seperate lines."

This sentence reffer to the past. I used "had to" so the verb "gather" must be in present time. What about the verb "stand"? Should it be in present because of "had to"?

Top answer

To gather is an infinitive, and so is stand. The infinitive marker (to) has been omitted because you don't need to repeat it. CB

There's no excuse for misspelling 'grammar': it's right there in the forum name.
