Not precisely incorrect; just not standard usage. In descriptions such as this we use the proximal demonstratives (this, these) for immediacy; it brings the pipeworks 'closer' to the reader. If the object is conceptually far away, then use that and those: We visited the Grand Canyon last week-- that was spectacular!
