You might hear both used, but I prefer the first. In the second case I would prefer an object after "discussing"; for example, "After discussing it with my boss ...".

The non-count form is more common and posters frequently have problems with the use of articles.
Also, it is a much more likely replacement for "after discussing it with my boss."
