Grammatically correct?

Hello. Is this grammatically correct? Should I include "it" or not?

The corridor was dense with smoke, so I tried to cut my way through (it) with the fire ax while covering my mouth with my other hand. I reached the stairwell, coughing from all the smoke inhaled.
