Grammatically correct

Dear teachers I have a question for you.

1. We had talked to him yesterday.

2. We talked to him yesterday.

Our teacher said that first sentence is not grammatical. I don't understand why. I believe that a native speaker can use a sentence like that. What makes this wrong?
