Since January 2009, I have worked approximately 500 hours studying a pathway in bacteria.

Is the grammar correct and/or is there awkward usage?

The grammar is OK. But the phrase 'a pathway in bacteria' seems awkward. Is it a correct technical expression of your meaning?

Thanks for the quick reply! I agree, it would be more appropriate to use "a biochemical pathway in bacteria." I was most concerned about having the verbs "worked" and "studying" linked together.
