Grammatical structure similar to the second conditional

Hi there! Let’s say we have the following sentence:

Before I https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/bang the https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/nail in, would you say this https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/picture was level?

It appears as if it is the second conditional, but as you can see, it’s a bit something different.

Pointing me in the right direction would be highly beneficial and I’m thankful for all your responses!

There is no "if" or "unless" in that sentence, so it is not a conditional.

"Would" is used in a polite request:

Waiter, would you please bring me a spoon?
May, would you like another cup of tea?
