Greetings. I wanted to ask if the below sentence was correct as it is:

How these two stories affect Antonio and how Antonio affects the play is as a masterfully placed puzzle by Shakespeare.

or should it rather be:

How these two stories affect Antonio and how Antonio affects the play is as a puzzle masterfully placed by Shakespeare.

Well, I intended to use the "as" in the sentence synonymous to "like" because of a sentence I heard in a video game and the grammar within the game was quite meticulous and proper as I recall. The sentence was; "The gods and demons you fear and worship are as insects to me." And of course, there is this definition of as in the first entry in the following link:
