Grammatical structure

Hi,

I am not for or against living together, but I am for young adults knowing that, far from safeguarding against divorce and unhappiness, moving in with someone can increase your chances of making a mistake — or of spending too much time on a mistake.

What is the grammatical status of the bold part? It seems to modifiy the gerund that comes right after it, namely "moving in with someone".

Can you rewrite it as follows?

I am for young adults knowing that moving in with someone, which is far from safeguarding against divorce and unhapiness, can increase your chances of making a mistake.

Thank you in advance for your help.

What is the grammatical status of the bold part? -- I think it's adverbial, modifying that clause that starts with 'moving', but there is probably more than one interpretation. -- I suggest this as a clearer explanation of its function: I am for young adults knowing that moving in with someone can increase your chances of making a mistake— or of spending too much time on a mistake— instead of safeguarding against divorce and unhappiness.
