Today, I am going to discuss regarding Grammatical Distinctions in the following way: 1. Few, a few, the few, not a few.
(a) Few has a negative force and means almost none. e.g I have few books (=Practically no books)
(b) A few mean some. e.g I have a few books (=some at least).
(c) The few has a double meaning, one negative and the other positive. e.g, I read the few books I had. That is (i) The books I had were not many (Negative). (ii) I read all the books I had (Positive).
(d) Not a few (=many) only more emphatic. e.g, He gave me not a few(=many) stamps.
I specially request seniors for helping me out, if there is any error in explanation of Grammatical Distinctions.
