grammar/vocabulary

Dear Teachers, could you please check my sentences for any grammar mistakes or improparly used vocabulary?

As my surgery, scheduled for Oct.19, was almost within reach, I felt I was standing in front of the gates of liberation from a six-year painful battle with fibroids which have taken an enormous toll on my emotional and physical wellbeing. However, on Sept. 20, my hopes were shuttered after being informed by Katherine, Dr. Read's nurse, that my surgery was postponed for Jan. 11, due to Dr. Read's being away. Despite my emotional devastation, I did some phoning and received contradictory information. So, on Sept. 22, I phoned Katherine in order, if possible, to clarify my confusion and to put an end to my speculations. These are the questions I got to ask Katherine: 1. Who made the decision to reschedule my surgery? 2. What was that decision based on? 3. When is the doctor away? 4. Is your statement (the answer to question #3) completely free of any consciously made errors? After the forth question, Katherine got agitated, repeated twice she didn't have to answer my questions and slammed the phone in my ear. Katherine's demeanour left me wondering whether I'm less of a person in her eyes because my life is of a foreign origin. I was extremely unhappy with how Katherine handled herself. I'm very concerned about her uncivilized behaviour for no ill human being nor an animal needs a health provider who inflicts emotional abuse on their patients. I strongly disapprove, and hope you too, of Katherine's uncivilized, abusive conduct and believe that measures will be taken to spare another sick person of such treatment.

Thank you very much for your help!
