1.I saw my friend. I ran forward to meet her.

The above sentence can be written as

2. Seeing my friend,I ran forward to meet her.


3.We saw grandma.She was picking some flowers.

it can be like this

4.We saw grandma picking some flowers.

I want to know technical term of such conversion.

Sentence (1) and (2) have some relation, similar (3) and (4) will have some grammatical relation.

I want to know the same realtion.What it is called?

In 1), the subjects are the same: "I"
In 2), the object in the first sentence, and the subject in the second sentence are the same: "grandma", "She".

To form a participle phrase, delete one of the subjects and change its verb to -ing, like this,

I saw my friend.
I ran forward to meet her.
